The Redevelopment Authority of the City of Watertown (RDA) is pleased to have awarded another Beltz Foundation Downtown Watertown Business Grant, the latest one being awarded to Sassy Sweets, 116 W Main St, Watertown, to support renovation and buildout for the new location. The business will be located in the former home of Elegant Arrangements, near the Main Street bridge.
Business owner Amber Yelk shared that she has been in business in Watertown for nearly a decade and is excited to transition from using Watertown Farm Market Kitchen (an incubator kitchen here on Main Street), to one with a brick-and-mortar location.
“I have a loyal clientele that I have been able to build up for the past few years, and my customers are happy that I will have a new location right here in our downtown”, said Yelk. “It will be great to have a storefront along Main Street, and just across the street from the Bentzin Family Town Square.”
Sassy Sweets specializes in cupcakes, scones, muffins, cheesecakes, and hand-dipped truffles, among many other holiday and wedding dessert items. Yelk states she's excited to offer more options to her customers in her new retail space. The business will continue buildout through the winter, with hopes to open sometime this coming spring.
“We’re glad to support another growing business here in Watertown,” said Ryan Wagner, RDA board chair. “We’re very appreciative of the support from Dr. Beltz in dreaming up this program and allowing the RDA to administer it.”
The Beltz Foundation Downtown Watertown Grant application program will re-open in early 2025, pending a new allocation of funds. The program was started in 2023, with the goal of funding community events and business expansions in downtown Watertown. To date, nearly $90,000 in grants have been awarded by the RDA through this program.
